Yoga for Self and Society

Yoga - A Way of Life

The purpose of the day is to increase public knowledge of the many psychological, spiritual, and physical advantages of yoga.

The combination of the human body and mind is symbolized by the Sanskrit term "Yog," which means "to join or to unite." It is a comprehensive workout that is essential for developing resilience and strength.

Every year, International Yoga Day chooses a different theme to center the festivities and events around a different facet of yoga. 2024's theme is "Yoga for Self and Society."

Even though yoga has its roots in ancient India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggested celebrating the International Day of Yoga in September 2014 at his speech to the UN General Assembly (UNGA).

While addressing the 69th session of the UNGA, the prime minister had said, “Yoga is an invaluable gift from our ancient tradition. Yoga embodies unity of mind and body, thought and action ... a holistic approach [that] is valuable to our health and our well-being. Yoga is not just about exercise it is a way to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature.
